    I started on the inner guards last night. In hindsight I made it too wide but that should be easily fixed.

      I made some more progress over the weekend. I made the door jams and completed the lower part of the motor support.

        electric did you not want to do a direct drive system instead of through the gearbox?

      A very valid question and a decision many EV builders face.

      You still need a diff regardless. So there really is no such thing as real direct drive. The gearbox reduces the engineering required as this chassis was designed for that gearbox, gear linkages and drive shafts.

      No gearbox means you need an electric reverse which requires mechanically switching polarity. The brushes are advanced to increase the ability to handle higher voltage. Reversing polarity would mean the brushes would be retarded and would blow themselves apart.

      Plus I love launching in 1st with all that torque off the line. There is nothing better. No gearbox would mean I would permanently gear it to the equivalent of 5th which would not be exciting to drive at any speed.
