Going on a restoration done in Europe I have tried to figure out dimensions and profiles. The actual cars are kind of slab sided so Im going to introduce a little more shape along the sides. I hope I don't upset anyone reproducing their photos ( Neil can delete them if the lawsuits start flying ) but I will post just a few so ya'll can understand the structure and how it is completely different to a 356. Its pretty similar to a beetle except the inner sills are flared at the front to allow the front fenders / guards to match the door profile Click image for larger version

Made some inner wheel arches using a mdf template ( I will then use the mdf to create a buck for the rear guards / fenders ) No metal shaping at this stage. mainly just folding and bending. I have a pulmax and bead roller but I'm trying to everything by hand. I'll take a photo of the Bead Facilitator I whipped up out of a ring spanner and some scrap bar. Works surprisingly well Click image for larger version

I cut the inner footwell from the doner beetle ( a 65 sunroof alas. There was nothing left to save ) Repaired the rusted section by gas welding then it dawned on me that the D&S would have not used that part as it would have been part of the complete shell that would have been removed back in the 50s. Chuck that in the bin and make a new one Click image for larger version

Its kinda hard when you live 3 hours away and get about 4 hours a month. !!! I secretly think Pete wants to copy my dimple facilitator. Hes just pissed that I came up with it.' New footwell panel. Needs a bit of tidying up around the headlight dimming switch then welding the L shaped return that attaches to the front hump Click image for larger version
