Hi everyone.
I am just setting out on my metal shaping journey. I have rebuilt two Datsun Z cars in the past.
I then took a different direction building two chassis from scratch. Both these were non registered and were for grass roots motorsport. Neither of these had any shaped panels.
I am now taking the next step and adding metal shaping to my activities.
I have chosen to build a Spyder. Similar to the Porsche 550 Spyder but I do not refer to it as a replica as it will have many differences.
I am starting with a chassis from a GTZ. These are locally manufactured by Sunshine Coast Sports Cars. They are manufactured under agreement from the original Sylvia in the UK. I would have preferred to construct my own chassis but the engineering rules and costs were prohibitive. I chose the GTZ because of availability, dimensions and it has already been through the engineering checks.
I am then massaging the body design to fit the chassis.
I have just done a TIG course but I need a LOT of practice.
I have the chassis and most of the parts required. There are a few odds and ends I still need to source but most are not an issue. Wheels may be challenging as there are some very specific details that must be met and the front and rear are different.
I am just starting to construct the buck. I have done a couple of mock ups to check a few components. You can see in one of the pics a mock up of the door jam. It was originally intended to test the hinge placement and resulting gap. I am now using this mock up to check how the body will marry up to the chassis. I still have a lot to learn.
